Protective Effect of Resveratrol against Hepatotoxicity of Cadmium in Male Rats: Antioxidant and Histopathological Approaches

Cadmium (Cd) is widely used in some industries and emitted from fossil fuels. It a heavy metal with number of side effects, including hepatotoxicity. Resveratrol (Rs) considered an important polyphenol, which secondary plant metabolite has the ability to scavenge free radicals. The study was designed evaluate effects resveratrol on Cd, induced hepatotoxicity, by assessment histopathological biochemical alterations. Forty male albino rats were divided into four groups: 1st group control group, 2nd treated Cd (5 mg/kg), 3rd given Rs (20 4th combination intraperitoneally for 30 successive days. results indicate that increased liver enzymes alanine aminotransferase aspartate (AST ALT), alkaline phosphatase ALP gamma-glutamyl transferase (γ-GT) while reducing total protein level; malondialdhyde (MDA) level decreasing levels other antioxidant super oxide dismutase, catalase glutathione peroxidase (SOD, CAT GPx). Serious congestion hemorrhage related hepatic tissues noticed plays major role alleviating injuries oxidative damage. clear minimize hepatotoxicity rats.
